350 Geburtstag Matthäus Pöppelmann

Another stamp for today:
Well, excuse my ignorance but I don´t really know who Matthäus Pöppelmann was, I never heard of him. So I did a little research.

"Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann war ein deutscher Baumeister des Barock und Rokoko (u.a. Dresdner Zwinger). Er wurde am 3. Mai 1662 in Herford geboren und verstarb mit 73 Jahren am 17. Januar 1736 in Dresden. Sein Geburtstag jährt sich in diesem Jahr zum 350. Mal.  Als sein Hauptwerk gilt der Zwinger in Dresden "

The Zwinger Palace in the heart of Saxony's state capital is one of the most famous Baroque buildings in Germany and next to the Frauenkirche probably the most famous monument in the city of Dresden. It is home to world-class museums and is a stage for musical and theatrical events. Visit their homepage to learn more about this beautiful building, its gardens and history.

Serie "Post" - Winterferien in Deutschland

As in previous years, the stamps that appear in the series "Post", present universal themes that fit various events. The theme of the current issue is "holidays in Germany," and thus addresses one time in which are known to be very many letters and postcards written.

Well, maybe there is not too much to write about this stamp. It´s a winter scenery. Here in Germany a very popular sport is skiing. There are numerous ski resorts. So far I have visited Winklmoosalm, that is partially in Austria (http://www.winklmoosalm.de/) and I must tell it´s a wonderful feeling to be on the top of the mountains.

In the end I would like to give you some Vocabulary related to Winter:

schneien - to snow
Es schneit. - It´s snowing
rutschig - slippery
Es ist rutschig - It is slippery
Es ist sehr kalt - It´s very cold.
der Handschuh - gloves
der Schnee - snow
Schnee Flocken - snow flakes
der Schneeball - snowball
einen Schneeball machen - to make a snowball
der Schneeman - snowman
der Schlitten - sleigh
Schlitten fahren - to sleigh
der Winter - winter
Winterferien - winter hollidays

Nationalpark Jasmund

Because one of my hobbies is stamp collecting, I think it is interesting to "see" Germany also by its stamps. So I am starting today to write a few things about the stamps issued this year. Maybe some of you will like them. I will write in English, because details in German you can find following the link stated below (Source).

Today´s stamp illustrates a scenery of the Kieler beach in the Jasmund National park (official website http://www.nationalpark-jasmund.de/).
The Jasmund National Park is a nature reserve in the Jasmund peninsula, in the northeast of Rügen island in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is famous for the largest chalk cliffs of Germany, the so called Königsstuhl (German = "king's chair"). These cliffs are up to 161 m high above the Baltic Sea. The undisturbed beech forests behind the cliffs are also part of the national park. Let the video speak for itself.

Consisting of only 30 km², this is the smallest national park of Germany, founded in 1990. I think it would definitely worth a visit.
